It’s National Volunteer Week and Central Coast Council is proud to celebrate the contributions of the thousands of volunteers across our community.In 2024 the theme is ‘Something for Everyone’ and from 20 – 26 May all of their efforts nationwide will be acknowledged.There are thousands of Central Coast residents making a difference in our community each and every day;
The rare international visitors who choose to breed at The Entrance North each year have begun their flight back home to South-east Asia.Hundreds of the endangered Little Terns arrived in early October from South-east Asia (breeding birds) and Japan (non-breeding birds) and the bright-billed breeding birds wasted no time in pairing up and laying eggs on the sand at Karagi Point, The Entrance North.After a record-breaking number of fledglings last season, expectations were high for the 2022/23 Little Tern breeding season.Central Coast Council staff were well prepared for the arrival of the birds and were busy in the off-season carrying out fox control, installing signage, planning educational activities, and installing a protective fence.
Planned work at The Entrance ChannelCouncil is commencing a program of proactive works to strategically move sand from the sand spit at The Entrance channel to renourish the eroded northern foreshores of Karagi Point Reserve.The program will include some berm height lowering of the Karagi Sandspit and take advantage of the opportunity to effect these works whilst the critically endangered Little Terns are in the northern hemisphere for our winter.These works will improve access and help protect the amenity and foreshore infrastructure at Karagi Reserve carpark.
Central Coast Council Water and Sewer is continuing to work with the community collecting feedback to help improve our water and sewer services.On 9-10 May, Council will engage in further community consultations at Wyong and Gosford, building on insights provided during the first round of consultations held in March.
