    Business survey insights indicate growth
It was great to receive more than 220 submissions in our first-ever business retention and expansion survey, part of our commitment to understanding local business sentiment.Responses came from 17 industry sectors, with the Property and Business Services industry sector submitting the highest number. This valuable survey will become our annual data collection and industry insights tool, allowing comparisons to be made over time. Some early themes identified from the survey are that business owners face challenges finding skilled labour but enjoy good support from the community and other businesses. Most respondents indicated they would like to retain or grow their number of employees in the next few years - a boost for residents looking to work closer to home. We’re now analysing all submissions and will prepare a report that can be shared to help people understand business patterns and trends within the industry.  The majority of businesses on the Central Coast are small to medium enterprises, employing between one to 20 people. One of the most effective ways small businesses can grow is through developing a robust business plan, with clear goals.Council offers a range of resources and support for small businesses on our website, from referrals to organisations that can help with business plan development, through to links to local networking groups and demographic data. I encourage anyone looking to grow their business to visit Council’s website, search for ‘Business advice and resources’ and explore what’s on offer.Mayor Lawrie McKinna
