Central Coast Council is progressing a series of flood studies across the region, aimed at improving community safety, resilience and preparedness for flood events. Council is inviting residents to comment on several flood studies that are currently open or will be open for public exhibition.

Flood studies are essential for understanding how floods behave on the Central Coast.

Regular updated studies ensure future flood management plans reflect the latest data, changing land use, climate trends and community experiences. This helps Council develop practical, effective solutions to protect lives, property and the environment.

Council Acting Mayor, John Mouland said flood safety and preparedness are priorities for Council.

“Working together with our community on flood studies is vital to ensure that our floodplain management plans are practical, effective and tailored to local needs. It’s about creating practical solutions that reflect the unique needs and experiences of our region,” Acting Mayor Mouland said.

Central Coast Council Director of Environment and Planning, Luke Nicholls said it is important for Council to regularly review and update flood studies to protect our community.

“Council complete flood studies across the region every five to ten years to ensure our understanding of local flood behaviour remains up to date. This ongoing work enables us to develop effective, evidence-based programs that enhance community safety and resilience,” Mr Nicholls said.

“Even if you have provided feedback on similar projects in the past, we still strongly encourage everyone to continue to participate in current surveys and review the studies on exhibition. Every contribution helps us build a clearer, more accurate picture of local flood risks.

“All information collected, past and present, helps us to validate and strengthen our modelling, ensuring our planning reflects the real experiences of our community.”
