Housing on the Central Coast

Find key information and related news and action taken by Council to address local housing issues.

The national housing crisis is also impacting our region, with serious housing challenges locally that include:

  • Continued rapid population growth
  • Shortage of low-cost rental accommodation
  • Lack of housing diversity to meet the various needs of our community

We are responding with a considered and strategic approach to the changing economic, environmental and social factors through resilient and innovative planning.

What is Council doing to address housing concerns locally?

  • We continually advocate for funding and planning reform across all levels of government - recognising there is no single fix to this crisis.
  • The Local Housing Strategy was endorsed in May 2024. Work on the priority actions identified in this strategy is underway.
  • To ensure that the local planning framework will support streamlined and faster delivery of new housing, we continue to work on reforms around our development assessment processes, and the local planning policy, master planning strategic centres and infrastructure contributions.
