Central Coast Council continues to monitor and respond to areas across the Central Coast impacted by heavy rainfall and flooding as part of the current severe weather event.

Council workers have been on the ground managing road closures, responding to water and sewer interruptions, inspecting beaches for erosion issues and supporting emergency services.

Residents requiring flood assistance or support can contact SES on 132 500.

Council crews are securing some landslips, which have occurred today. These are not affecting traffic.

Residents in Spencer have been isolated due to flooding. The SES and Disaster Welfare have made contact with the affected residents and are monitoring the situation.

The Central Coast has experienced peak rainfall of 340mm over the past four days, with rain expected to continue over the coming days.

As at 2.30pm today, flood levels Tuggerah Lakes are at 1.39 metres. The lake levels will not peak until approximately 24 hours after the rainfall event and it is likely to peak at 1.50m on Monday morning.

Based on previous events it will likely stay at this level for up to 36 hours and likely not subside to below minor flood level (0.9m) until Wednesday or Thursday.

The expected peak is higher than the April 2015 event when levels peaked at 1.45 metres, but less than the February 2020 event which reached 1.67 metres and when many roads and properties were flooded.

Council continues to closely monitor Upper and Lower Mooney Dams in partnership with the SES. The dams are structurally sound and spilling due to floodwaters. Should there be any change, SES will directly alert impacted residents.

Significant rain in the area of Wyong South treatment plant has impacted the wet weather pond at the plant. Council is working on solutions to control the release of the excess water into a nearby creek. Council is working with the NSW SES to ensure early warnings are in place for four to six nearby properties, should it the rain continue and this be required.

Residents experiencing any water or sewer concerns should contact Council immediately on 1300 463 954.

The Entrance Channel remains open and flowing with an estimated width of 80 metres. This is more than 50 percent wider than it was at the commencement of the February 2020 flood event.

Council continues to remind the community to take care on the roads and avoid unnecessary travel. Multiple local roads are currently closed due to flooding, and updates on our local roads can be found on Council's Facebook page.

Residents are also reminded to avoid swimming and any other recreational contact with the Coast’s waterways during (and for a few days after) the current significant rainfall.

For emergency help in floods and storms, contact the local SES Unit on 132 500. For life threatening emergencies, call 000.
