Council is celebrating the 10-year anniversary of The Entrance Community Centre by hosting an open day on Tuesday 10 September.

The community is invited to attend the special event which will include market and food stalls, an art exhibition, Men’s Shed BBQ, Aboriginal smoking ceremony, performances by The Entrance Public School and music.

Council’s Director Connected Communities, Julie Vaughan said the milestone event was a collective achievement.

“The Entrance Community Centre continues to be an important hub for locals as it provides a base for residents and service providers to meet the needs of many,” Ms Vaughan said.

“I was lucky enough to attend Council’s official opening of the Centre in 2009. We are proud of how the Centre has evolved over the past decade, as it serves the community through our partnerships and offerings.”

The Entrance Community Centre is a multi-purpose facility comprising offices, a café, meeting rooms, workshop, craft room, art gallery, dance studio and Men’s Shed. It also has a fully fenced outdoor playground and BBQ area.

Mayor Jane Smith said community centres play an important role in providing opportunities for residents to engage in social, cultural, recreational and education opportunities in their communities.

“Congratulations to everyone involved in the past 10 years of servicing The Entrance community and on developing a popular centre for all ages that brings our community together,” Mayor Smith said.

“Community centres are a great way to meet local people and engage in new activities and experiences.

“Now is a great opportunity to celebrate the importance of this centre to our community and find out how you can get involved.”

The Entrance Community Centre 10-year open day will be held on Tuesday 10 September 2019, from 10am to 2.30pm. Entry is free.
