Office of the Mayor Media Release - Mayor calls on Premier to urgently visit the Central Coast

Central Coast Mayor Lisa Matthews will move a Mayoral Minute at the rescheduled Council Meeting calling on the NSW Premier to visit the Central Coast to see firsthand the devastation caused by the recent extreme weather event.

Services and infrastructure have been severely impacted on the Coast with numerous roads closed, powerlines down and services out and homes and businesses inundated by floodwaters.

Mayor Lisa Matthews said the repair bill was unknown at this time but is growing with each day and recovery will be long.

“Following the extended drought, we thought rain was the answer to all our prayers including for our waterways and our dams but we didn’t expect it to come in quite this volume,” Mayor Matthews said.

“Nature has not been kind to us. Just as we have started to recover from the fire threat we have been hit by this and it will take a long time and a lot of funding to recover.

“That is why I am calling on the Premier to come to the Coast and see for herself the devastation this has caused to our vital infrastructure and our community and to take action.

“We need the State Government to open up its heart and its coffers to help us repair and recover.

“I believe the Premier is a woman of compassion and action and we need both now.”

The Mayoral Minute will be moved at the rescheduled Ordinary Meeting of Central Coast Council on Wednesday February 12 at 6.30pm in the Gosford Chambers.
