This year as part of National Water Week 16-22 October, Central Coast Council Water and Sewer encouraged the Central Coast community to take the leap towards water conservation through several community programs.

These programs included the Primary School Poster Competition, Walter Smart and Friends School Performances and workshops and Water Night.

Director for Water and Sewer Jamie Loader thanked the nine schools across the region for taking the leap and getting involved through the Walter Smart and Friends stage show.

“In addition to local schools getting involved, we had a great response to our National Water Week Primary School Poster Competition. Congratulations to Ella from Valley View Public School for being awarded Stage 3 Winner and Willow from Bateau Bay Public School who was the Stage 1 Winner.

“A big part of National Water Week this year was Water Night. Over 300 households across the Coast got involved and turned off their taps between 5-10pm on Thursday 19 October. We want to continue to see that grow year on year showing the rest of the nation just how water-wise we are on the Central Coast.

“It’s more important now, more than ever, that Central Coast residents follow Council’s Water Wise Rules now the region has officially been declared drought affected. Water Wise Rules are not water restrictions - they are simple rules that help us use water responsibly and ensure we continue to be a water wise community,” Mr Loader said.

Central Coast Council Administrator, Rik Hart said it was fantastic to see the community engage with Council staff at pop-up events across the week.

“Water and Sewer Education Officers took part in pop up events at Westfield Tuggerah, Erina Fair and Avoca Beach markets. Over the week the team connected with 300 residents sharing tips and advice on how to save water in and around their home.

“We know awareness is high and intentions are good, it is now time we continue to educate ourselves around the small changes that can make a big difference when it comes to saving water every day,” Mr Hart said.
