Central Coast Council is encouraging residents to take advantage of the incredible array of free online resources through their Library Service.

Council Acting Unit Manager Libraries, Beth Burgess said the library provides the perfect way to put new devices to use with something for all ages and interests.

“Whether your New Year’s resolution was to learn a new language, read more or simply relax, we have the free resources to help,” Mrs Burgess said.

“Clue Detective provides access to crosswords, sudoku and other brain teasers without the pesky pop up ads, while Mango Languages gives you access to learn more than 70 languages.

“With coding so popular these days we have the online resource Rainforest Coding, where children as young as five are introduced to the programming language ‘Scratch’ or to assist with literacy development children can enter the vibrant and interactive online ‘reading room’ of Story Box Library.

“And this is just the tip of the iceberg!

“All these fantastic resources and services are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, allowing members to connect, learn or relax in a manner and time that works for them.

“If you have friends or family who are visiting the area let them know they can also benefit from amazing eLibrary services, with temporary online memberships available.”

Mayor Jane Smith said with so many residents commuting for work, Council’s eLibrary provided a convenient way to access books, magazines and music from any digital device for free.

“Commuters no longer have to worry about forgetting reading material or syncing their devices again as instant access to their local library can be found in their back pocket,” Mayor Smith said.

“Members can stream six hours of free music every day on Freegal, gain instant online access to more than 16,000 eBooks and eAudiobooks through BorrowBox and Overdrive, and enjoy 180 eMagazines through RBDigital.

“Best of all it is free, meaning you’ll never have to pay for an eBook or magazine subscription again.

“This is why libraries are so important and valued by our community as they ensure an even playing field where everyone can have access to the latest technology and innovation.

“Council is committed to continuing to invest in our libraries to ensure our growing community have the services, access and opportunities they need to thrive.”
