Council urges community to remain vigilant as severe weather continues across the Coast

With a state of natural disaster declared for the Central Coast region, Central Coast residents are being advised to remain alert as severe weather continues to impact the region.

The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a Severe Weather Warning for Tuesday, which includes the Central Coast. This may bring further rainfall of approximately 80mm and strong winds, with gusts averaging 60 to 70 km/h and peak gusts in excess of 90 km/h.

Residents are advised to secure loose items from around their property and move vehicles away from trees. Trees may be unstable as a result of the significant rainfall. Residents should call SES on 132 500 should their property be impacted by fallen trees.

Multiple roads across the Central Coast are currently closed due to flooding and subsidence. With conditions changing regularly, Central Coast Council is advising motorists to avoid unnecessary travel, follow signage and directions carefully and never drive through flood waters.

Residents are urged not to remove road closure signage or barriers – these have been placed for the community’s safety and need to remain in place. They will be removed by Council staff when appropriate.

Weekly kerbside bin collections are continuing as normal. For properties located on sections of road currently closed to vehicles, kerbside services will resume as soon as roads re-open and residents should keep their bins on the kerbside until they are collected. Collections will continue over the weekend if necessary.

An evacuation reception centre has been set up by Disaster Welfare Services, Resilience NSW to assist community members affected by flooding. The centre is located at Diggers @ The Entrance (315 The Entrance Road) and will operate 24 hours 7 days.

A number of agencies will be onsite to offer support including Chaplaincy Network, Red Cross, Disaster Welfare Assistance, Housing Contact Centre, Salvation Army, Local Land Services and Samaritans.

Impacted residents can also contact Disaster Welfare Assistance on 1800 018 444.

Community members can report a Council issue at any time, day or night. Log concerns online by clicking the 'Report an Issue' icon at centralcoast.nsw.gov.au. For water and sewer emergencies please call 1300 463 954.
