Council seeks input on Draft Gosford CBD Heritage Interpretation Strategy

Central Coast Council is encouraging residents to have their say on the revitalisation of the heritage of Gosford CBD.

The Draft Gosford CBD Heritage Interpretation Strategy aims to bring the heritage of Gosford to life and change the perception of the CBD by repositioning the area as an attractive destination for tourists and visitors. It includes a series of innovative, inclusive and interactive ways of engaging and connecting residents with the city’s past.

Mayor Jane Smith said the strategy recognises the environmental, social and economic value in local heritage assets and the contribution they have made to the identity of the Gosford CBD.

“We need to understand and appreciate our past history to build a bright future for the CBD,” Mayor Smith said.

“Well known heritage assets do attract tourism and there are plenty of those in the CBD to make the most of.

“The strategy identifies 64 potential heritage activation locations. There is currently some signage around the Gosford CBD that signifies the history of the area, but this is somewhat outdated and needs reviving, which is what we plan to do.”

“I encourage those particularly interested in preserving our heritage to have a say about the plans for the CBD.”

A series of drop-in sessions are also being held for the community to find out more about the strategy and its outcomes.
