Council partnering with community to wipe out graffiti

Central Coast Council is urging Coast residents to be part of the solution in reducing graffiti in our community.

Free graffiti removal kits are available from all Central Coast libraries and Wyong and Gosford Customer Service Centres. Provision of the kits is one of many initiatives which reduce graffiti across the Coast.

Council Director Connected Communities, Julie Vaughan said while Council staff remove graffiti from Council assets, we also want to do all we can to assist private property owners.

“We know that removing graffiti quickly is one of the most effective ways to tackle graffiti vandalism,” Ms Vaughan said.

“By providing removal kits, we are partnering with residents to keep our community vibrant and sustainable.

“Rapid removal is a proven strategy to discourage graffiti vandals and it’s also a lot easier to remove if it’s tackled as soon as possible.”

The kits provide residents with the chemicals and equipment needed to remove graffiti from their own property or, with permission, the properties of friends and neighbours.

Two different kits are available. One kit contains the chemicals used to remove graffiti from masonry, while the second is suitable for use on painted surfaces.

Both kits also contain instructions, safety information and equipment such as gloves and goggles.

The free kits can be collected from all Central Coast libraries and the Gosford and Wyong customer service centres.

To collect a kit, residents must be aged over 18 and show proof of their address.
