03/07/2022 Severe Weather Warning
The BOM issued a Minor to Moderate Flood Warning at 11.29am 3 July for the Hawkesbury River at Wisemans Ferry which is expected to reach the moderate flood level (3.50 metres) during Monday. Further rises are possible, with forecast rainfall.
Residents along the Hawkesbury River system from Wisemans Ferry to Wendoree Park and Lower Mangrove should keep updated through the SES NSW bulletins https://www.ses.nsw.gov.au/. Residents should also familiarise themselves with the local forecast high tide levels for the next two days, continuing into the week, as the combination of high tide and higher than normal river level may affect road access for short periods. The BOM has continued its weather warning for the Central Coast with an East Coast Low off the east coast of NSW impacting our region. This weather impact is expected to linger until Monday with onshore winds driving very heavy surf from the east or southeast.
Beach conditions in these areas could be dangerous and people should stay well away from the surf and surf exposed areas.
WATERWAYS & BEACHES:
• Avoid swimming and any other recreational contact with the Coast’s waterways during (and for a few days after) significant rainfall due to increased risk of pollution from stormwater run-off and large submerged objects washed into waterways that could potentially cause injury.
• Council has been monitoring the condition of The Entrance Channel which remains open. We expect Tuggerah Lakes levels to continue to rise through Sunday and Monday, but it is unclear at this stage whether the minor flood level 0f 0.9m will be reached. This will depend on realised rainfall over the coming days.
• Council is monitoring our beaches that are prone to coastal erosion, there are no notable issues at this stage, although we expect conditions to worsen towards the evening. We ask the community to stay away from erosion scarps, and not to go through closed accessways.
• Coastal lagoons are being monitored, Terrigal lagoon is currently open and other lagoons will be monitored throughout the say as these are influenced by ocean conditions and will fluctuate with tides.
• Surf conditions are expected to be hazardous for coastal activities such as rock fishing, swimming, and surfing.
ROADS:
Road closures include
- Johnson Road, Ace Crescent, Anzac Road in Tuggerah.
- Carlton Road in Holgate.
- Showground Rd, at the intersection of Malawa Street at Gosford.
