Local sporting associations and clubs, as well as the wider community will benefit from an $11million project which will upgrade 16 sportsgrounds across the Central Coast region.

This NSW Government funded project will deliver improved facilities that encourage participation in sport and support healthy and active lifestyles for our community.

The works consists of various sports infrastructure upgrades, such as the installation of sports lighting, drainage and irrigation; which will allow for increased use of the grounds throughout the year and improved safety for players and supporters.

As part of this project, works will be undertaken at the Central Coast Regional Sports and Recreation Complex at Tuggerah, to upgrade Premier Field 5 (drainage, irrigation, and re-levelling), construct hard surface courts to Central Park, and to install ball net fencing, a wash down bay, entry signage and event storage. These upgrades will enhance this quality facility’s current offerings and further attract elite sports and visitors to our region. 

Upgrade works are also planned for sports grounds at Blue Haven (Blue Haven Oval), Buff Point (Buff Point Oval), East Gosford (Hylton Moore Oval), Holgate (Paul Oval), Kariong (Kariong Oval), Kincumber (Patrick Croke Oval), Narara (Paddy Clifton Oval and Carrington/Pandala Oval), Noraville (Darren Kennedy Oval), Ourimbah (Sohier Park), San Remo (Northlakes Oval), Tacoma (Don Small Oval), Terrigal (Terrigal BMX facility), and Wyoming (Maidens Brush Oval and Alan Davidson Oval). 

High Quality drainage and irrigation systems at sports fields play an important role in facilitating quicker wear recovery, maintaining healthier turf all year round and enabling grounds to re-open faster after wet weather events. These works will improve the quality of the fields, making it more enjoyable to play on, limiting field closure and interruptions to seasons.  This means our sporting community can get back on the field quicker after wet weather and play the sports they love.

Effective sports lighting increases the use of a sporting facility for play and training, whilst creating a safe and enjoyable facility for competitors and spectators – especially during winter seasons when it’s dark by late afternoon.

Central Coast Council is working with Public Works Advisory (PWA) to deliver the works associated with this project.

This project works schedule commenced late 2021, with completion of works at all sites expected by December 2022 (weather permitting).

*for any sites receiving drainage and irrigation upgrades, the grounds will be closed an additional month after construction works are complete. This is to allow time for the turf to grow over the trench lines created by excavation for the drainage and irrigation pipework, which will ensure player safety. This additional time is included in the dates provided in the table above.

Can the grounds be used during whilst works are underway? 

The facilities that are having drainage and irrigation upgrades will be closed for use while the works are underway. The facilities where floodlighting works are being undertaken can still be used, with only areas around the perimeter of the Fields being closed. Please refer to the project works schedule for the full list of facilities and works being undertaken at each. 

How do these works impact organised sports? 

The facilities that are having drainage and irrigation upgrades will be closed for use while the works are underway, therefore the clubs who would generally utilise these grounds will be relocated for training and games during this period. Council is working closely with each of the Central Coast sporting associations to communicate the project program and reallocate grounds.  The facilities where floodlighting works are being undertaken can still be used, meaning that the clubs who would generally utilise these grounds will still have access to them for training and games.
