23/10/2025An impressive turnout of students gathered at the new Gosford Regional Library in October for a special series of HSC Lock-in events designed to support young people during one of the most intense periods of their academic journey.
The events offered extended library hours until 8pm, creating a welcoming and focused environment with quiet study spaces, free snacks and drinks, wellbeing support packs from Headspace, and a dedicated relaxation room complete with yoga mats and strength cards. Students were encouraged to take breaks, recharge, and connect with peers in a calm and supportive setting.
Gosford Regional Library proved to be the perfect venue. With its multipurpose theatre-style space, full-size kitchen, and breathtaking study views, the library offers an ideal blend of functionality and inspiration. Facilities such as makerspaces, meeting rooms, and recording studios added to the creative energy of the event.
A standout feature was the feature viewing of a youth-led short film project, The Possibility of One Day in a Lifetime (Post-HSC). Conceived to offer calm, reflection, and inspiration during the high-pressure lead-up to the HSC, the film was shot entirely by talented young filmmaker Isabelle Ince under the mentorship of esteemed artist and psychotherapist Samantha Fin, and led by Council’s Youth Services Team.
Four participants were invited to explore the world of filmmaking—from storyboarding to filming and editing. One participant completed the project solo, producing a stunning visual journey that captured the familiar beauty of the Central Coast across a single day. The final product was a testament to their creativity, resilience, and dedication.
We now plan to promote the short film through local schools, youth services, and community networks to activate more support spaces across the Coast.
As we continue to build and nurture a supportive study culture, the success of the HSC Lock-ins signals a promising future. We look forward to hosting more events that empower and uplift our local youth.
Good luck to all Central Coast HSC and year-12 students in your exams!
