Council is upgrading the drainage and irrigation at a number of sportsfields across the Central Coast to improve the recreation structure, making it more user-friendly during wet weather.

It is a vital and much needed upgrade that will have long-term benefits as these four fields are utilised by hundreds of community members and different sports all year round.

  • Buff Point Oval, Buff Point
  • Patrick Croke Oval, Kincumber
  • Koala Park Field, Colongra
  • Harry Moore Oval, Toukley.

Works will involve installing new sprinkler systems, water storage tanks, connection to town water, new drainage pipework, drainage pits and sub-soil drainage infrastructure.

This will enable the community to get better use out the playing surfaces allowing faster draining times during wet weather events.

Storing water will allow the surfaces to be watered more efficiently limiting the impacts of drought conditions, especially during Summer.

Works will kick off at Buff Point on Monday 5 February before heading to Kincumber in March. These two fields are expected to be opened early into the 2024 Winter sports season in May (weather dependent).

The improvements at Toukley and Colongra ovals will start in May and June and is expected to be completed in time for the 2024/25 Summer sports season.

High quality drainage and irrigation systems at sports fields play an important role in facilitating quicker wear recovery, maintaining healthier turf all year round and enabling grounds to re-open faster after wet weather events. These works will improve the quality of the fields, making it more enjoyable to play on, limiting field closure and interruptions to seasons.

Council acknowledges there will be a temporary pain for local sporting bodies during the time the grounds are out of action and thank the community for their patience and cooperation whilst these important upgrade works are carried out.
