EOI opens Monday 20 March 2023

Thanks to support from the Office of Sport, Central Coast Council is seeking local sport and active recreation providers operating in San Remo, Blue Haven and surrounding areas to complete an Expression of Interest to join our June Active Fest event to encourage youth aged participants to reconnect with sport and active recreation and get physically active!

Active Fest events are funded by the NSW Government’s Community Sport Rebuild, and Recovery package, and provides financial support, assistance, and participation opportunities for communities hardest hit by the COVID lockdowns.

Active Fest aligns with the Active Central Coast Strategy which provides the framework for increasing participation in sport and active recreation across the Central Coast.  Active Fest continues the work of Council, Office of Sport and Central Coast Local Health District’s Health Promotion Service in delivering the Get Active San Remo and Blue Haven initiative in October 2022.

1. Background

In 2022, Council partnered with the Office of Sport and Central Coast Local Health District’s Health Promotion Service to develop Get Active San Remo and Blue Haven - a campaign that encourages the community to be more physically active and participate in sport, active recreation, and physical activity.

The aims of Get Active San Remo and Blue Haven were designed to:

•    Increase participation in physical activity by community members
•    Increase awareness of physical activity opportunities available locally
•    Increase knowledge of benefits of physical activity
•    Create positive change in attitude towards physical activity
•    Increase awareness on the support available for the Active Kids program.

Active Fest builds on the Get Active San Remo and Blue Haven initiative and continues to provide opportunities to collaborate with our partners to deliver sport and active recreation activations for the community.

2. What is the aim of Active Fest?

The project aims to:
•    Encourage young people to reconnect through participation in sport and active recreation
•    Showcase or provide opportunities to experience the range of sport and recreation activities available to people in San Remo, Blue Haven and surrounding areas
•    Provide opportunities for those who have disengaged from or are not currently participating in sport or active recreation
•    Provide funding to assist with delivery of activations that increase participation in sport and active recreation.

3. How does the project work?

Council is offering funding up to $2000 per sport or active recreation organisation to host an activation for local Primary School students at the Active Fest event on Friday 2 June at Blue Haven Oval – with sports fields, basketball / netball courts, tennis courts and green space available for use for providers.

We are inviting local sports clubs and active recreation providers to apply for funding by completing the EOI form. Only one application per club or provider can be submitted.

Applicants must adequately explain the types of activation they will deliver as part of the Active Fest. It is important to provide clear and concise detail about:

•    The type of activation you are planning to deliver
•    How the activation links to aims of Active Fest
•    How the activation can provide a pathway into continual participation opportunities for participants that are offered by the provider
•    How the provider will promote the local clubs, associations, providers available in the local area to highlight ongoing participation opportunities for their sport or recreation activity.

4. Expected activation outcomes

Each application is required to address a minimum of one of the following outcomes:
•    Provides an opportunity for participants to try a sport or active recreation activity
•    Showcase a new or existing activity or local provider
•    Increased participation for local providers
•    Re-engage participants with sport and active recreation
•    Engage under-represented populations for example, people with a disability, culturally and linguistically diverse and Indigenous groups to provide access to activities in new and innovative ways.

5. Types of activities supported

Types of activities supported include, but are not limited to:

•    Come and try activation
•    Sport Coaching Clinic
•    Event aimed at showcasing new offering or increasing participation
•    Modified sport or physical activity activation.

6.    Types of support provided

The types of applications supported will be at the discretion of Council.

Council in its discretion may fund some or all the components of a project.
