Central Coast Council is proud to be partnering with Green Caffeen to help reduce the number of single use coffee cups going to landfill. We’re inviting local cafés to join the Green Caffeen program and help make reuse the new normal for their takeaways!

What is Green Caffeen?

Green Caffeen is a ‘Swap and Go’ Reusable Coffee Cup System in Australia, with over 600 cafés offering the scheme. The aim is to collaborate and implement a program that reduces waste, generates awareness and promotes a culture of reuse.

Green Caffeen aims to reduce dependency on single use coffee cups, reduce waste from landfill and give cafés an alternative or addition to the discount BYO coffee cup incentive.

How does it work?

Green Caffeen’s Swap-and-Go Coffee Cup scheme provides reusable coffee cups to participating cafés and coffee outlets which are available for scheme members to use when they buy a coffee. They can take the cup away with them and return the dirty cup to a participating café when empty or retain the cup for reuse when they buy their next coffee in a clean Green cup.

How can cafés get involved?

Cafés can participate in the scheme free of charge! All they have to do is receive the dirty cups and wash them (cheaper than buying single-use cups). Participating cafés will be featured on the Green Caffeen Café Finder Map to make it easy for users to find them.

Cafés can wear their eco-credentials on their sleeves and use the scheme to promote their café and build a Green reusable culture within.

Cafés can register today to help stop single-use cups at the source and change our takeaway coffee culture for good.

How can coffee drinkers get involved?

The Green Caffeen program will officially launch across the Central Coast from Friday 18 June 2021. Green Caffeen’s reusable cup scheme makes being eco-friendly a simple choice for coffee drinkers. It’s like the library for coffee cups!

How it works:

• Download the Green Caffeen app and sign up with your details
• Scan a reusable cup at a participating café
• Sip your lovely hot cup of coffee and feel the life force flow through you
• Return to any participating café within 30 days (if you can’t return it within 30 days, you’ll incur a $12.99 fee to make sure there’s plenty of cups in the system for everyone to use)
• Repeat, repeat, repeat

This project is a NSW Environment Protection Authority Waste Less, Recycle More initiative funded from the waste levy.
