On Tuesday 9 April 2024, Council ran it’s second public information session for people interested in nominating to run for election as a Councillor at Central Coast Council.

There was a strong turnout – approximately 50-60 people – at the public event in Wyong, and I’d like to thank everyone who made the time to come along to this second session.

Each candidate information session has covered a broad range of topics including the purpose and principles of local government, Council’s structure and functional responsibilities, the integrated planning and reporting (IP&R) framework (including the types of strategies and plans that Councillors will make decisions on), Central Coast Council’s recent history (including its financial crisis and recovery), financial management practices (including Council’s Financial Strategy and Long-term Financial Plan); definitions of ‘governance’ and characteristics of good governance, legislative frameworks for Councillors, the role of a Councillor and the Mayor, and much more!

All presentations and questions asked at both the first and second candidate information sessions are available on Council’s website on the 'Election and Referendum’ webpage. I encourage anyone who has not attended these sessions but is still interested in finding out more to access these resources, and to make use of the extensive materials on the NSW Electoral Commission’s website under the heading ‘For political participants’.

Keep an eye out for Council’s third candidate information session to be held in July 2024, with details to be confirmed closer to the date.

Rik Hart, Administrator
