West Gosford major sewer rising main partial replacement

Project overview

Central Coast Council Water and Sewer have engaged Eire Constructions Pty Ltd to deliver a $21.2M upgrade for existing sewer rising main infrastructure in West Gosford.

The rising main has greatly deteriorated due to poor soil conditions, rupturing twice in the last 5 years and causing harm to surrounding sensitive environments.

These upgrades will require the replacement of a section of the sewer rising main from the back of the Gosford Racecourse along Narara Creek, following the creek through Gosford Golf Course, and finishing at the Gosford Men’s Shed within the Gosford Showground carpark.

Why is this project happening?

The current steel sewer pipes are nearing the end of their lifespan and pose a high risk of failure. Upgrading this infrastructure is essential to maintain reliable sewer services for the community.

Project scope – what are we doing?

We will install approximately 2,250 metres of new pipework to replace the old steel pipes. The works include:

• above-ground mild steel DN600 pipes
• polyethylene DN800 pipes installed using horizontal directional drilling in hard-to-access or developed areas

Timeline

Construction is expected to start in the first quarter of the 2026 calendar year with completion by mid-2027. Additional follow-up works, such as such as surface reinstatement and commissioning, may continue beyond this timeframe depending on progress and weather conditions.

Community impacts

• Minimal disruption: The project is located away from roads and pedestrian paths, so impacts on traffic and residents will be very limited.
• Golf course access: Works will be fenced off, and play will not be interrupted.
• Showground parking: Some car parks may be temporarily reduced, but we will keep this to a minimum.

Stakeholder engagement

Council is working closely with the Racecourse, Golf Course, Showground and the Men's Shed to minimise impacts and maintain safe, well-managed environments throughout the project.
