As Bike Week steers into NSW, Central Coast Council celebrates with a collection of events from 17 to 25 September 2016.

Zali, the Road Safety Zebra, is running a colouring-in competition and is also looking for your best bike safety tip. The competition is open to preschool and primary school aged children that reside on the Central Coast. There are lots of great prizes up for grabs, with the overall winner receiving a children’s bike and helmet. Entries have been extended for another week and now close at 5pm on Friday 23 September.

On Wednesday 21 September, Bikeworx are hosting a free bike maintenance workshop at Kincumber Library from 10am to 11.30am. Grab some refreshments and learn about easy bike maintenance and rules for safe cycling. Bookings are essential and can be made by calling 4325 8307.

From 7.30am on Saturday 24 September, head over to the Terrigal Foreshore (near the Surf Club) and use your pedal power to blend your own smoothie. Choose your flavour and get pedalling on one of the stationary smoothie-making bikes. There will also be Bike Week giveaways as well as a booth with information on our local cycle ways.

Council’s Technical Services Coordinator, Jeanette Williams, said the NSW Government run program is a great way to not only promote the many benefits of cycling but to remind everyone about the many cycle paths on the Central Coast.

“There is an event during NSW Bike Week to suit all ages and all levels of bike riders,” said Ms Williams.

“NSW Bike Week helps promote cycling in the Central Coast and highlights the benefits of cycling as a low cost and healthy way to travel, that is also environmentally friendly. It’s also a great way to keep fit and active.

“Council have also been active in making significant progress through developing cycling infrastructure and opportunities to ride.

“With the weather warming up it’s a great time to hop on your bike and explore one of the many cycle paths as well as visit any local attractions you may find along the way, such as playgrounds, coffee shops and other places of interest.”
