Exciting news for families in Davistown and Tuggerawong – two new district-level playspaces are on the way, with construction progressing at Tuggerawong Road and works at Illoura Reserve in Davistown scheduled to follow.
The commencement of works follows the recent completion and opening of the brand-new Picnic Point playspace at The Entrance.
Central Coast Council Director Community and Recreation Services, Melanie Smith said playspaces are always a welcome addition to local communities, providing safe, vibrant spaces for children of all ages to enjoy.
“This financial year, the community will see Council’s investment in the renewal of 10 local-level playspaces, two fitness equipment parks and one nature playspace – as well as the development of district-level playspaces at Picnic Point, Davistown and Tuggerawong,” Ms Smith said.
Ms Smith also confirmed that a new toilet amenity block will be constructed at the Tuggerawong playspace in the 2025-26 financial year.
Council Mayor, Lawrie McKinna said the designs of the three district-level playspaces reflect the community’s aspirations, vision and priorities.
“I was at the opening of the Picnic Point playspace recently and saw first-hand the joy and delight of children enjoying the new play equipment," Mayor McKinna said.
“It is pleasing to see that community feedback informed the overall design and choice of equipment, meeting the needs of local families.
“Council is committed to continuing to deliver these important community assets, shaped by input from the very people who will use them.”
Details of the district-level playspaces are:
- 326-328 Tuggerawong Road, Tuggerawong: Construction commenced in April 2025 on a brand-new district-level playspace on the vacant lot formerly occupied by the Tuggerawong Community Hall. This playspace will feature swing sets, including a pendulum swing, slides, a multi-level climbing structure, nature play and a unique mouse house.
Proudly funded by Central Coast Council ($330,000). Completion expected in May (weather permitting).

- Illoura Reserve, Davistown: Construction is scheduled to commence in early 2025-26 to replace the existing playspace with a new, fully fenced playspace featuring traditional play equipment, including swing sets, slides, a pirate ship climbing structure, a rock and net climbing structure, a flying fox and shade.
Proudly funded by the NSW Government’s Stronger Country Community Fund ($311,000) in association with Villages Community Group ($18,000).

Both playspaces will deliver enhanced recreational and accessibility features, promoting healthy, active lifestyles for the local and wider community.

Council classifies playspaces into local, district and regional categories. This system helps determine the appropriate size, features and location for each playspace based on the needs of the surrounding community.
- Local playspaces are smaller playspaces typically found within local parks. They cater primarily to residents living within a short distance (generally 400-800m) and are designed for shorter play sessions.
- District playspaces are medium-sized playspaces often co-located with other community facilities, such as sports fields or community centres. They serve a larger area, typically within a 1-2km radius, and are designed for longer play sessions (more than 2 hours).
- Regional playspaces are the largest playspaces, offering a wide variety of equipment and often including additional amenities such as car parking, skate parks or half-courts. They serve a wider catchment area, typically within a 5-10km radius, and may attract visitors from across the region.
