29/06/2022From 3 to 10 July 2022, the community will come together to celebrate NAIDOC Week 2022. NAIDOC Week is an opportunity for everyone to honour the rich history, culture and achievements of our First Nations People.
Each year the Central Coast community comes together to celebrate this important week and the proceedings are marked by an official flag raising ceremony outside of Council chambers. This year’s flag ceremony will occur Monday 4 July from 9.30am at Council’s Wyong Administration Building, Wyong.
The theme of this year’s NAIDOC is ‘Get Up! Stand Up! Show Up!’, which highlights the long history our First Nations People have dedicated to using their voice for change. In 2022 there is a real momentum for the rights of First Nations People, to Bridge the Gap in health and social outcomes and for genuine reconciliation towards a stronger community.
Central Coast Council has developed a draft First Nations Accord to acknowledge the rich and enduring culture of our First Nations People and recognise the important of reconciliation on the Coast. Some of its actions are to support key events for NAIDOC Week 2022 that will celebrate and honour Indigenous culture.
The week-long NAIDOC community program includes the Official Flag Raising Ceremony, Darkinjung NAIDOC Ball 2022 and Darkinjung LALC Golf Day presented by Darkinjung Aboriginal Land Council, NAIDOC Nylon II presented by Barang Regional Alliance & Naughty Noodle Fun Haus, NAIDOC Community Day hosted by Nunyara Aboriginal Health and Central Coast Local Health District and more.
