We are excited to have successfully secured $28.3million funding from the Australian and NSW Governments for the remediation works on Wisemans Ferry Road.

Repairs and betterment works are now underway for more than 40 landslip sites on Wisemans Ferry Road in Spencer and Gunderman.

Wisemans Ferry Road experienced widespread damage including embankments with landslides and rockfalls at multiple locations, after major flooding and storms in 2022.

Since the time that emergency works were undertaken to reinstate road access and ensure safe use of the road, Council has continued to work on delivering solutions to get the road back to working order and to better withstand future natural disasters.

These long-awaited works have been much anticipated by the community after many natural disasters and storm events impacted local roads and the day-to-day life of locals, as well as visitors to the area.

Extensive slope and road pavements work are progressing across multiple sites on Wisemans Ferry Road (Spencer to Gunderman) in various stages from 2024 to 2026:

  • Road pavement restoration works are anticipated to be completed in October 2024.
  • The landslip works to repair the road embankment and upslope failures at over 40 sites along Wisemans Ferry Road (Spencer to Wisemans Ferry Landing) have commenced. These complex and extensive works, which include full design and construction works will continue through to mid-2026.  Works at the site which requires temporary closure during heavy rainfall has been scheduled as a priority, with this section anticipated for completion by the end of 2024.

During the period of works, traffic control will be in place to ensure motorists can travel safely though the area, and road users are advised to take care, follow signage, and allow extra travel time. Residents will receive notification when construction works are scheduled to commence which impact access to private properties.

This project is jointly funded by the Australian and NSW government Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements through the Regional Roads and Transport Recovery Package.

Completion of the Wisemans Ferry Road project is anticipated in June 2026, weather depending.
