Gosford Regional Library welcomed thousands of people of all ages and backgrounds on Saturday to explore the Central Coast’s first regional library in the heart of Gosford.

The library was officially opened by a ribbon-cutting ceremony with the community, led by Central Coast Council Mayor, Lawrie McKinna, joined by Parker the Platypus and the Central Coast’s Town Crier.

Central Coast Council Director Community and Recreation Services, Melanie Smith said the day was an opportunity for the community to make the library their own.

“It was wonderful to see our new regional library full of people engaging with all the opportunities that this state-of-the-art facility offers,” Ms Smith said.

“With enthusiastic support, the Community Day saw 1,750 books borrowed and welcomed 230 new library members!

“The library is designed for everyone on the Coast, whether you’re a student, a professional, parent or simply someone looking for a place to connect. Everyone is welcome.”

Offering tech demonstrations, to children's storytime and live music, the Community Day celebrations showcased the library’s role as an inspiring hub for learning, creativity and connection.

Central Coast Council Mayor, Lawrie McKinna said the new regional library represents a major achievement for the Central Coast.

“Gosford Regional Library is the first of its kind for our region. It stands as an iconic building in the heart of the Gosford CBD—a place where our community can connect, create, and collaborate,” Mayor McKinna said.

“This library will serve generations to come. It is a sanctuary for learning, a space for entertainment and quiet reflection, and a place our community can truly call its own.”

“I’d like to extend a big thank you to Lahznimmo Architects, the team at North Construction, all the construction teams, and our dedicated Council staff who helped bring this incredible library to life. Your vision, dedication, and commitment have been extraordinary.”

The $32.7 million project was proudly co-funded by Council ($25.7 million) and the Australian Government ($7 million).
