This initiative is led by Planet Ark, which aims to plant one million trees across Australia this year - with our local planting events contributing to this goal.

The importance of planting in this area

Dune vegetation is important to our coastal zone, stabilising sand against the impacts of wind and water erosion ensuring dunes to continue to protect us from coastal hazards such as storm surges and waves.

Dune vegetation also significantly contributes to biodiversity. Revegetating Killcare will increase habitat and food source for local fauna native to the region. Established native vegetation also prevents other unwanted species (like Bitou Bush) from thriving in exposed sand dunes.
