Josh Hooke Evocations

When

Location

5 Laycock street
Wyoming NSW 2250

Presented by Laycock Street Community Theatre, in association with Musica Viva Australia.

A performance from one of Australia’s most exciting and versatile young pianists, Josh Hooke presents Evocations

With each work in this program representing the idea of evoking an image, scene or character in music, the piano's unique power of illusion and potential for colour is very much a driving force throughout.

The program opens with Anne Boyd’s Kabarli Meditation, inspired by Sidney Nolan’s painting 'Daisy Bates at Ooldea.’ The second half commences with Portuguese composer Berta Alves de Sousa. This is followed by Catalan composer Federico Mompou’s mystical Paisajes (Landscapes), and concludes with Stravinsky’s own depiction of shrovetide in the ultra-virtuosic transcription of selected scenes from his own ballet score, Petrushka.

Duration - 95 min, including interval.
Venue - Don Craig Room at Laycock Street Theatre
