The Local Housing Strategy recognises our region’s housing challenges and outlines a number of ways to address these in the short term and through to 2041.A Central Coast Local Housing Strategy has been developed with feedback from community engagement, to address the local housing challenges impacting our community and region, including:• continued rapid population growth• a shortage of low-cost rental accommodation• lack of housing diversityA coordinated approach across all levels of government and the private sector is required to support diverse and sustainable housing on the Central Coast, and respond to community concerns.Our Local Housing Strategy outlines Council’s role and sets the agenda for work that we will undertake in the coming years to address these challenges at a local level - in a coordinated and collaborative way.Council activities will support and encourage the responsible delivery of additional housing that’s diverse, affordable and resilient to climate changes with suitable protection of community green spaces and the environment.
Now More Than Ever – that’s the theme for this year’s National Reconciliation Week (27 May-3 June), a reminder to all of us that no matter what, the fight for justice and the rights of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people will and must continue.The week is a national initiative to acknowledge the importance of reconciliation between the wider Australian community and First Nations People.Council is taking steps towards reconciliation through the adopted Central Coast First Nations Accord and the Aboriginal Advisory Committee,The Accord is an agreement between First Nations Leaders and Council and sets an agenda that guides how to best work together and further reconciliation.The Aboriginal Advisory Committee was established in December 2023 and works to identify, examine, and formulate a collective response to issues that affect the Central Coast Aboriginal community.Our community has come a long way but there is still more work to be done.
Central Coast Council is excited to introduce the Street Design Guideline (Guideline) and Landscape Works Specifications, a comprehensive framework designed to transform the design and development of streets and civic spaces across our towns and neighbourhoods.The draft Guideline, which was on exhibition for community feedback, was adopted at Council’s Ordinary May meeting, and lays out both the visionary and technical criteria necessary to create greener, safer, and healthier streets throughout the Central Coast.Council Acting Director Environment and Planning, Luke Sulkowski, said well-designed streets can create a strong sense of place and strengthen the bonds within our neighbourhoods and towns.“Community feedback on the draft Guideline, indicated support for vegetated, shaded streetscapes, more seating and designs that safely cater for the rise in alternative modes of transport.“Streets form a significant part of urban public spaces and play multiple roles beyond providing transportation routes.
Locals and visitors to Ettalong Beach can enjoy a newly constructed section of shared path along The Esplanade with improved accessibility and safety.The newly constructed 190m pathway runs along the foreshore (from outside of 119 The Esplanade to Kourung Street),and includes 150m of a 2.5m wide shared path and 40m of 1.5m footpath.
A series of Skate Park maintenance works are rolling out across six Central Coast skate parks – BATO Yard (Bateau Bay), Wadalba Skate Park, Picnic Point Skate Park (the Entrance), Banjo’s (Terrigal), Narara Skate Park, and Kariong Skate Park. These essential works will ensure that these community sporting facilities are kept to a safe standard and will help prolong their life, so they can be enjoyed for many years to come. Council is progressing a significant program of remediation works at Gosford City Car Park to repair, maintain and extend the lifespan of this well used facility.Gosford City Car Park (located at 1 Baker Street) is multilevel facility with 650 car spaces that provides both permanent and casual parking for city centre workers, residents, and visitors to Gosford.
