With a background spanning 40 years in community and human services, Councillor Sharon Walsh brings extensive experience and a lifelong commitment to social justice to her role as a Councillor. Her career includes over 20 years as a lecturer in Human and Community Services and Sociology at the University of Newcastle, where she also worked closely with communities, focusing on violence against women and children including elder abuse and primary prevention.
She currently serves as Vice Chair of the Central Coast Domestic Violence Committee and has dedicated years to advocacy in domestic violence, child protection, juvenile justice, and women’s health.
Her financial acumen includes managing and acquitting grants for research and advocacy campaigns, as well as leading budgets in two non-profit organisations, ensuring fiscal responsibility essential for continued funding.
Passionate about creating safe, equitable communities, Sharon has long championed women’s and children’s rights and remain active in environmental and social justice causes including housing and shelter as a basic human right for all.
She also supported her children’s education as an active member of their school P&C, from primary through high school.
