Niagara Stadium upgrade works

The Central Coast’s Niagara Park Stadium is moving to the next step towards the commencement of upgrade works to improve accessibility access, as well as a number of other important improvements which will benefit a range of users.

Following the design and construction tender which closed on 21 March, only two tenders were received, both of which significantly exceeded the available budget.  It was resolved at Council’s Ordinary June meeting that Council staff could negotiate directly with companies, to achieve a contract, which offers the best value for money for Council and the community.

Niagara Park Stadium is a highly utilised community facility that plays host to regional, state, and national sporting and community events.

Council Director Community and Recreation Services Melanie Smith said the facility was constructed in 1999, and since that time, the accessible access leading from the stadiums main car park has deteriorated.

“Council received NSW Stronger Country Communities funding in November 2021 for the upgrade of the driveway, carpark, accessible ramp and building façade totalling $850,000.

“Council also sought community feedback in 2022 on the concept plans for accessibility improvements, and 89% of the community supported the key improvement features.

“Taking advantage of the funded upgrade works, the project scope then combined additional funding from Council’s capital works funding to include upgrades to the internal amenities and changing rooms which were originally planned for 23/24 and 24/25,  to create one tender.

“This provides a great outcome for the community, with significantly improved recreational facilities.”

Council Administrator Rik Hart said Niagara Park Stadium is a key community recreation asset, which is used extensively all year round by clubs and the community.

“The improvements that are to be undertaken will prove a major benefit to the users of the facility – and no doubt attract more users for different sports and activities.

“It already features four multipurpose sports courts that cater for basketball, netball, volleyball, futsal, badminton, table tennis, and roller derby. The stadium also has a trampoline area, a dance studio, martial arts and community meeting spaces.

“By improving accessible access, as well as internal amenities upgrades, the Stadium will be more welcoming and safer for all.”
