Central Coast Council would like to advise its community on the passing of John Dawson, former General Manager of Wyong Shire Council.

John was Wyong Shire Council’s longest serving General Manager having commenced on 15 May 1973 as the Shire Clerk, before being appointed to the role of General Manager on 1 July 1993.  John held that role until 30 September 2003 – a total of more than 30 years!

John started his career in Local Government at the age of 15 and worked across a number of Councils up until his appointment to Wyong Shire Council in 1973.  John played a significant role in the development of the Council and the broader local government industry with two A. R. Bluett Memorial Awards presented to Wyong Shire Council under his stewardship.

John was respected for the refreshing and innovative ways in which he dealt with local government issues and will be remembered as one of the great General Managers of local government.

Council sends its condolences to John’s wife Julie, his children and his broader family and friends at this difficult time.
