16/06/2025I’m excited that Council is partnering with the University of Newcastle to develop a new ‘maker space’ at the Gosford Regional Library.
A maker space is a supportive community hub designed to inspire exploration, creativity, ideas sharing and self-directed learning.
University experts will collaborate with Council to create a state-of-the-art space within the library, equipped with 3D printing machines, virtual reality goggles, sewing and Cricut machines, that will encourage skills development, critical thinking and experimentation. It will also provide opportunities for project collaboration and social connection.
Community groups, students, residents and local businesses will be able to book time in the maker space and use the resources available.
‘Town and gown’ alliances traditionally bring together the best of educational and civic leadership, expanding the capacity of Councils to deliver services, and universities to extend their reach into the community.
This important collaboration will help us provide new, innovative services for our growing community.
I’d like to thank the teams at both Council and the University of Newcastle for their vision and commitment to bringing this initiative to life. Together, we are stronger and it’s gratifying to be working towards this common goal.
The new Gosford Regional Library is on track to open in just a few short weeks. If you’d like to find out more about its many features, read frequently asked questions, view concept plans and sign up for project updates, please visit Council’s website and search for “Gosford Regional Library Project’.
The $32.7M Gosford Regional Library project is jointly funded with $7 million from the Australian Government’s Community Development Grant Program and developer contributions, special levies and Council funds restricted for this project.
