12/05/2025National Road Safety Week 2025, which runs this week, is an important reminder that we all have a role to play in helping to reduce the number of serious injuries and fatalities on our roads.
The week also coincides with the United Nations Global Road Safety Week.
Every year, approximately 1200 people are killed and another 40,000 are seriously injured on Australian roads. And 340 people lost their lives on NSW roads in 2024, with speed remaining the biggest issue.
The colour yellow is used to signify road safety and this year The Sydney Harbour Bridge will be lit up yellow. You can wear a yellow ribbon or put one on your car during National Safety Week, to show your support.
There’s so much you can do every day to make sure you’re part of the solution.
Show respectful road behaviour – give people the space they need and resist the urge to tailgate.
Remove all distractions and never use, or touch, a mobile phone while driving.
Speeding, driving tired or driving under the influence puts yourself and others at risk.
Make it your goal to get home safely every day and take extra care navigating our regional roads.
Road safety begins locally, and your speed matters. Take a moment to remember lives lost on our roads, and make it your habit to drive so others survive.
