Children Programs and Events

Central Coast Library Service offers a range of exciting programs and events especially for little ones. Babytime, Toddlertime and Storytime sessions are held weekly at various branches and literacy programs Reading Buddies and BaRK are held at select locations. For children and Youth come along to one of our exciting bookclubs and share what you are reading. Contact your local branch to make a booking or for more details.


Babytime is a special program of songs, rhymes and simple stories for babies aged six to 24 months. Sessions are held weekly at libraries throughout the Central Coast.

This exciting program is designed for toddlers, their parents and carers. It utilises a range of songs and rhymes to assist with language, literacy and numeracy skill building. Toddlertime provides the perfect introduction for our Storytime program. No bookings are required.

Storytime encourages a love of reading and fosters the development of new skills to children aged 3 to 5 years in a positive and engaging environment. We share stories, songs and a simple craft. Storytime runs all year, except over summer holiday break.

BaRK Reading Program

In your child hesitant to practice their reading with you? Maybe they would prefer to read with a specially trained, non-judgemental and adorable BaRK buddy. This unique program encourages children to practice reading to an assistance dog within select library branches. There are currently precious pups waiting to be read to. Get in touch to see if BaRK is available in your branch and book your child’s place today,

Reading Buddies Program

Reading Buddies is a literacy program for primary aged children. Volunteers listen to children practice their reading in the library after school. There are currently vacancies at some of our branches for both volunteers and students in this highly popular program. Contact your local branch to book your child’s place today.

Book a Day Program

This program is designed to help families develop a love of reading and prepare their children for lifelong learning. When you register your child you receive:

  • a reading journal
  • a book bag
  • a set of colouring pencils
  • program information

There are fun rewards to collect along the way such as stickers, stamps, novelty items and books. Give your child a head start and register them at your  local library and start reading a book a day today!

A new online storytime resource showcasing the best Australian children's stories.

Rainforest Coding
The fantastic new interactive adventure 'Return to Crystal Rainforest' will introduce the programming language 'Scratch' to children from 5 years old.

10 Monkeys
A new math learning tool to help 6-10 year olds learn basic mathematical skills in a fun game-like environment.

Primary Book Clubs

Bookblasts: Meet up at Erina Library from 4pm on the third Thursday of the month to discuss books you have been reading. For primary school aged children.

Umina Primary Book Club: Meet up at Umina Library from 3.30pm on the second Monday of the month to discuss books you have been reading. For primary school-aged children.
