How much do you know about the history of Wyong?
Take a fascinating guided walking tour around historic Wyong and learn about its establishment and development since 1887.
The guided tours will be hosted by the Wyong Family History Group and will give you a peek into life in Wyong over 100 years ago.
Commencing from Alberts Cafe next to Wyong Train Station, the tour takes about 90 minutes passing most of the town’s historic buildings along the way. The walk will follow the Pacific Highway, before heading up Alison Road and finishing on Margaret Street at the Post Office. Your guides have photographs of early Wyong which make the learning experience more enjoyable.
Afterwards, you may like to take some time to read about Wyong Town Centre's history further on our historical signs, stop for lunch at one of the town’s many eateries or browse some of the unique stores in the heart of the town centre.
The Wyong Heritage Walk has been developed for locals to learn more about their rich history and visitors to the town to enjoy our local area.
Take a stroll along the walk, visit some of our historical locations and learn about the rich history of Wyong Town Centre.
Prefer a self-guided tour?
With the guided tours during the Love Lanes Festival and National Heritage Month being so popular, and the ongoing challenges presented by COVID-19 restrictions, we’re taking it to the next level and making it even easier for people to learn about our rich history.
We have recorded the heritage walk as an audio self-guided tour available to download for free.
There are five interpretive signs on the walk that showcase the stories and historical images of key post-settlement sites such as the Chapman Building, the Royal Hotel, Turton’s Corner, the original police station and the Wyong Town Park.
The tour starts at sign 1, located adjacent to the taxi rank at the western entrance to Wyong Railway Station. From there you will be directed to remaining signs on the tour.
