The local playspace at Mardi, Woolmers Crescent has been renewed to provide a safe and engaging community space - where children can play and locals of all ages can connect and socialise in the fresh air.

The ageing play equipment was replaced with a new native animal inspired playspace (including swings, nest swings, slides, and climbing elements) and has a mix of mulch and rubber softfall.

Supporting infrastructure such as seating, and new pathways to the existing picnic tables and shelters were constructed for improved accessibility and established tress retained to provide natural shade over the playspace.

This playspace renewal was funded with $105,000 from the Australian Government’s Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program and $5,000 from Council.  The LRCI program supports local Councils to deliver priority local road and community infrastructure projects across Australia, supporting jobs and the resilience of local economies to help communities bounce back from the COVID-19 pandemic.

Council has developed a 20 year renewal program to sustainably manage the lifecycle of playspaces which, provides a long term strategy for repair, replacement and upgrade.

Read Council’s Playspace Strategy to learn about the strategic direction for the development and sustainable management of playspaces across the coast.
