World Water Day is on 22 March 2021 and this year’s theme ‘Valuing Water’ highlights what water means to different people, recognising its true value and discussing how we can better protect this vital resource.
Central Coast Council is celebrating World Water Day 2021 with a range of special events and programs, designed to engage and educate our community. Here’s how you can get involved and join the conversation around preserving and protecting water on the Coast:
Take a virtual tour of Mardi Dam
Book your free spot for an interactive behind-the-scenes tour of Mardi Dam and Mardi Water Treatment Facility on Monday 22 March.
Take a behind-the-scenes-look at the water treatment processes that ensure our community has access to clean and safe drinking water. You will learn about the importance of our water resources and have the opportunity to ask one of our experienced Operations staff questions about how the system is managed and operated.
Learn about water wise gardening and waste
Book your spot in our free Green Living Workshop at Parkhouse, Gosford on Monday 22 March to learn how to create a water wise garden and reduce your waste!
Learn about simple techniques, tools and gardening systems that will minimise water use and loss in your garden and reduce waste. This workshop will cover topics to help you have a garden that is healthy and water wise.
Join online ‘water’ Storytime
Central Coast Council Library Service will be running a free online Storytime session with a special water theme and a special guest appearance from 'Whizzy' the water mascot, to teach young children about the importance and value of water. Book your free spot now and tune in via Zoom at 10.30am on Monday 22 March for an entertaining and educational experience.
You can also head to Parkhouse at Kibble Park, Gosford on Tuesday 23 March for a special in-person Storytime with Whizzy. Due to current restrictions, places are limited - free tickets will be available from Parkhouse from 10.30am onward.
Play the ‘Working with Water’ game
Can you keep the Coast supplied with drinking water through flood, fire, drought? Quench the thirst of our growing population with the new Working with Water game. It’s hours of Sim-City style fun as you battle to keep the water flowing despite natural disasters, equipment failures, busy tourist seasons, property booms and more.
