Mayor’s Column: Restrictions eased, risks are still there

For almost two months now the community has had to adapt and accept the new way of living life during COVID-19, now we find ourselves stepping out of that comfort zone and back into somewhat normality.

Some of you will relish it and enjoy visiting with loved ones, catching up with more than 1 friend, dining out in your favourite local restaurant or simply sitting and enjoying your morning coffee in a public space. Some may find the change challenging.

In line with the latest NSW Government’s easing of restrictions, Council has reopened playspaces, outdoor fitness equipment and skateparks for public use. Gosford Olympic Pool is now open for lap swimming with restrictions in place, including pre-booking, time-limited sessions and a one-person lane limit.

However, it is at this time we must not become complacent. Our track record so far in minimising the risk of spread of COVID-19 in the Central Coast region is a result of our community diligently practicing physical distancing, good hand hygiene and looking out for one another.

I encourage you all to continue to adhere to the current restrictions in place, reduce the risk of contracting or spreading the virus and act responsibly.
