Harmony Week is a celebration of our cultural diversity – a time of cultural respect for everyone who calls Australia home. It’s about inclusiveness, respect and a sense of belonging for everyone.

Join us at our library branches, in Kibble Park in Gosford and in Memorial Park at The Entrance in March for a number of fantastic events to celebrate Harmony Week!

Chinese Painting for Beginners
Tuesday 10 March, 10-11am
Erina Library
Discover the background of Chinese painting and learn basic techniques with Caroline from the Hunter Chinese Language School. All materials will be supplied.

Harmony Week Craft Activities

Celebrate Australia’s cultural diversity by creating simple craft projects to take home or display in your local library. Colour in or decorate paper balloons or paper chains to contribute to the library display. Our libraries support inclusion and the Harmony Day theme - ‘Everyone belongs’. All welcome.

Two Countries, Two Stories

Meet Hilda and Pam - both immigrants from South Africa. Hear their stories about growing up in South Africa and moving to Australia - two very different experiences.

Furoshiki – Fabric Wrapping Workshop
Saturday 21 March, 11am-12pm
Erina Library
Learn all about the art of Furoshiki, a centuries old traditional Japanese fabric wrapping technique used to wrap presents. A beautiful and sustainable practice.

World Poetry Day: Poets Breakfast

Gosford Library
Celebrate world Poetry Day at Gosford Library with our first ever poet’s breakfast. Enjoy poem readings over a light breakfast. Bring your favourite poem to read to the group or chat about the poems you enjoy.

PhotoVoices Exhibition and Workshop Program for Harmony Week 2020

Wednesday 11 March – Sunday 22nd March @ Kibble Park in Container Hub, 9am-5pm daily, free entry.

PhotoVoices Exhibition
After a successful Summer launch at The Entrance, our PhotoVoices Exhibition celebrating cultural diversity on the Central Coast will be displayed in Kibble Park as part of Harmony Week 2020 celebrations.

In conjunction, we will be presenting an exciting program of creative workshops and cultural storytelling opportunities in Kibble Park based at the Container Hub, which will be located near Gosford Library. See you there!

Workshop: Random Weave Basics
Wednesday 11 March, 10am-12pm   
Are you keen to try something new within a safe and inclusive environment? Join local artist Lisa McArthur-Edwards for basics on the art of random weaving - an organic, expressive process using natural materials that you can find in your garden. Free, bookings essential. Ages 12+. Beginners welcome. 

Workshop: My Home, My Heart: Picture-Based Storytelling
Wednesday 11 March, 1-3pm
Create your own collaged artwork that celebrates and reflects your cultural heritage. Using your own photos and paper-based keepsakes, you will create a unique canvas which tells your story under the guidance of German-Australian Artist Nina Katzmarski. This will be a safe and inclusive space where the stories of all are welcomed and shared. Free, bookings essential. Adult workshop, no creative experience necessary.  Please bring personal photos and keepsakes for incorporation into the artwork (copies will be taken – no originals will need to be used).

Workshop: Little Paper Houses
Thursday 12 March, 10am - 12pm
What does the idea of ‘home’ mean to you? Does it include other cultures, countries and customs? Come and share your ideas with paper as we craft little sculptural houses under the guidance of German-Australian Artist Nina Katzmarski. This will be a safe and inclusive space where the stories of all are welcomed and shared. Free, bookings essential. Ages 12+. Beginners welcome.

Workshop: Simple Fibre Sculpture
Saturday 14 March, 10am-12pm
Join us for this introduction to simple fibre-based sculpture. Drawing on techniques from many cultures, artist Lisa McArthur-Edwards will guide you in creating a small sculptural piece within a welcoming, communal environment. Free, bookings essential. Ages 12+. Beginners welcome.

Come on down and join us in learning the basics of this simple and meditative craft. Artist Lisa McArthur-Edwards will demonstrate the basics of this timeless technique, all within a safe and communal environment where stories are welcomed and shared. Free, bookings essential.
