More parking, safer access and a new off-leash dog area at Tunkuwallin Oval
MEDIA RELEASE
Gwandalan and Summerland Point communities, local sporting groups and visitors to Tunkuwallin Oval are now enjoying safer and easier access with two new carparks and landscaping completed by Central Coast Council.
To maximise community benefit and meet a local need, material excavated during the carpark project was reused to level a nearby cleared area, which was then turfed to create a new off-leash dog exercise area.
Central Coast Council Mayor, Lawrie McKinna said the upgrades at the Tunkuwallin Sport and Recreation Precinct reflect Council’s commitment to supporting an active and growing northern community.
“We’re investing in places that locals love and use every day,” Mayor McKinna said.
“More people are spending time at the Tunkuwallin Sport and Recreation Precinct. They are staying active, playing sport, socialising or simply enjoying the fresh air.
“The new carparks and off-leash dog exercise area follow the skatepark and pump track upgrades we delivered last year. Together, these improvements make the precinct safer and more accessible for Gwandalan and Summerland Point residents, local sporting groups and visitors.”
Council Director Community and Recreation Services, Melanie Smith said Tunkuwallin Oval continues to evolve as an important and well used sport and recreation hub.
“Tunkuwallin Oval is a vibrant, all ages precinct with basketball courts, sportsgrounds, a playspace, skatepark, pump track, community hall and pathways that encourage recreation, sport and social connection,” Ms Smith said.
“The skatepark and pump track completed in 2025 were shaped by community feedback and designed as inclusive spaces for all ages and abilities, with a mix of street and transition style features. They are already proving popular with locals and attracting visitors from near and far.”
“The improved parking, including accessible spaces and drop off zones, has made the precinct safer and easier to access, while the new off leash dog exercise area adds even more for the whole community to enjoy.”
Tunkuwallin Sport and Recreation Precinct is located at 130 Kanangra Drive, Gwandalan.
