Remediation works complete

Remediation works at Gosford City Car Park to repair, maintain and extend the lifespan of this well used facility were completed in mid-December 2025.

Gosford City Car Park (located at 1 Baker Street) is multi-level facility with 650 car spaces that provides both permanent and casual parking for city centre workers, residents and visitors to Gosford.  This infrastructure is over 40 years old and was showing signs of its age!

To increase the longevity of this asset we have completed the following:

  • roof repairs
  • signage replacement
  • line marking
  • guard rail remediation
  • painting of columns and fire stairs.

Smart Technology upgrade underway

In early February 2026, we commenced a Smart Technology upgrade to improve comfort, safety, efficiency and security. The upgrade is scheduled for completion in the 2025-26 financial year and will support a safer, smarter and more accessible city centre.

The upgrades will introduce modern features including:

  • removal of entry barriers for smoother access
  • ticketless parking via Automated Number Plate Recognition (ANPR)
  • camera-based monitoring for enhanced safety
  • upgraded restrooms
  • enhanced accessibility features.

Transition to cashless

Gosford City Car Park (levels 1-5) and the Pay By Plate Parking Area (ground level) at 1 Baker Street, Gosford, will transition to cashless payments only from 2 March 2026. The change forms part of the Smart Technology upgrade and reflects current customer behaviour, with only 2% of transactions made in cash. Administering cash now costs more than the revenue it generates. Parking rates are not changing as part of the transition.

Amenities upgrade

A separate amenities upgrade is scheduled to begin in March 2026, including improved bathrooms and accessibility features.

Trial of extended operational hours coming soon

Leveraging the new technology, we will trial extended operating hours for six months, to support local businesses and Gosford’s night-time economy. The trial period will be announced shortly after the technology upgrade has been completed. Proposed trial extended operating hours will be:

  • Friday and Saturdays: extended closing time until 10pm
  • Sundays and Public Holidays: 8am-9pm
  • Monday–Thursday: existing hours remain unchanged

Casual parking fees will apply during the trial including on weekends and public holidays, with full details to be confirmed before the trial begins.

To stay up to date on the upgrades and the extended hours of operation, follow our Facebook page for the latest news.

Looking for a park?

During peak times of use, such as when significant events are being held at Gosford, advice would be to allow additional travel time in case the car park becomes full and parking needs to be sought elsewhere or consider use of public transport.

  • There are several car parks located in and around Gosford, along with metered and unmetered street parking options. You can find a list of Council-operated car parks on our parking webpage.
  • Public transport can be a convenient option. Gosford Station is centrally located and offers train and bus connections to many destinations. Consider using Transport for NSW’s Trip Planner to find the best route for your needs.

We thank users of this carpark for their cooperation and apologise for any inconvenience you may experience during the delivery of these works, which will ensure this facility will be available for many years to come.

  • Permanent account holders will continue to have guaranteed parking available throughout the project. However, your reserved space may be temporarily relocated to another reserved space within the car park and will be reinstated at the project’s completion. All other account benefits remain unaffected. Communications has been issued to account holders and Council will continue to update with news or changes as possible. • The Gosford City Car Park remediation project budget cost over $2.6 million, and is funded by Council - partially through Gosford Parking Station Special Rate Levy (external restricted funding), with the remaining balance by Council’s general funding.

  • More information about the trial will be available in March 2026. To stay up to date on the upgrades and the extended hours of operation follow our Facebook page for the latest news.

While we’re excited to launch this trial, it’s important to note that we are seeking to assess the usage data, community feedback, security, safety and revenue impacts. Once the trial is complete and the results have been evaluated they will be reported back to Council where further decisions will be announced on whether the extended hours have been beneficial for Gosford city centre and local businesses.

  • No. Parking fees are not increasing as part of the move to cashless payments.

The Gosford City Car Park and Pay By Plate Parking Area have long been paid parking facilities. The change to cashless payments does not change parking rates.

  • Yes. It is legal for Council car parks to operate without cash payments.

New federal laws introduced from 1 January 2026 require certain retailers, such as supermarkets and fuel retailers, to continue accepting cash. These laws do not apply to:

    • car parks
    • parking stations
    • local government parking facilities

Gosford City Car Park and the Pay By Plate Parking Area are not covered by these cash‑acceptance requirements.
