Construction on the two new sets of stairs at Blue Lagoon Beach is underway, restoring safe access to one of our most love beaches.

The $514,255 of works are being undertaken following $245,000 funding received from the NSW Government as part of The Crown Reserves Improvement Fund in association with Central Coast Council to restore access to Blue Lagoon Beach.

After extensive site investigations and detailed engineering designs (including coastal engineering) for the two new sets of stairs, we are pleased to see the commencement of the construction of the stairs to restore safe access to Blue Lagoon beach.

These works are designed to ensure long-term structural integrity and resilience against future weather events.

With works anticipated to be complete by June 2026, we need your help to ensure the construction of the stairs remains safe for everyone over the coming months:

  • Please stay away from the impacted area
  • Please keep personal safety front-of-mind and remain behind any barriers that Council crews or contractors have put in place

This project is proudly funded by the NSW Government via Crown Lands and its Crown Reserves Improvement Fund (CRIF) in association with Central Coast Council

  • We know the wait has been longer than expected, and we appreciate your patience during this delay. The construction date was delayed to allow for further investigation and design of the two stairs, making sure they had met all requirements under the relevant Australian Standards and design codes.

This means that when they are being built they will be safe, durable and environmentally responsible.

  • We understand concerns about the cost. These new stairs are designed to be safer, more durable and better suited to the coastal environment. Council followed a competitive tender process to ensure best value for the community for this design and construct project.

  • Due to the steepness of the sand dunes at this location, we are unable to make this site fully accessible. We do have a number of accessible beaches, bushland destinations, reserves and foreshore areas on the Central Coast. Information on our accessible beaches can be found on our accessible nature page
